Problem gambling and Aripiprazole /Abilify

Aripiprazole (sometimes branded as "Abilify") is an antipsychotic that is commonly prescribed for the treatment of bipolar. However after a significant number of "yellow card" instances of its use being associated with the onset of problematic gambling, health bodies have updated their advice to psychiatrists.

If you think you may be affected, DO NOT discontinue your medication, but tell your medical professional as soon as possible if you or your family or friends notice that you are developing urges or cravings to behave in ways that are unusual for you, including behaviours such as addictive gambling, excessive eating or spending, or an abnormally high sex drive.

For information and help on problem gambling, there's a good resource at NHS Inform here
